My Love / Hate Relationship with Paper Trimmers

Pin It! I definitely have a love /hate relationship with paper trimmers. I still have the very first one I ever bought I tried to sell it in a garage sale but it just wouldn't go away. I have tried rotary, guillotine, you name it. I think this is it... this will be the one... this will give me the cut I need. But no every one has failed me in some way. Not a small way but in a way that I have needed to move on and find a new trimmer in my life but still I can't part with the old so I have a graveyard of old trimmers in my attic. I think I may have found the one, or maybe it found me. You know what they say. When you aren't looking that's when the magic happens. Well, I was just strolling through Costco and along came the Purple Cow.

Christie,
You can e-mail Making Memories and they will send you a replacement. Mine broke also, two times!! They sent me one both times. I asked about purchasing a few but they never responded (feeling guilty for the freebie after the first request.) I think you have to go through them for a replacement, no charge. They also were kind enough to include a few goodies also. Great customer service.

Sure wish we had a costco in my town. I love the look of this trimmer. I too can't find the right one. Hope this works for you.

I thought I was the only one with a love hate with paper trimmers. I have bought so many over the years. I am going to Costco on Tuesday so hopefully mine will have the trimmer so I can take a look at it. I love all you videos. TFS. Chris

Hi, its quite spooky, my cutter graveyard looks exactly the same as yours, and in the same sequence (even down to the little roller cutter too!). I have now the dual cutter which is just the best in my opinion, I havent found any probs yet (fingers x) x Leigh x

I picked this same one up in my Costco in Orland Park and I also got the laminater. New tools always scare me though so I just took it out of the box yesterday and that is as far as I have gone. Go Figure!!

I have gone through all the cutters you have, andI have that purple cow. It was fine for a few months and now it doesn't cut straight on the guillotine side and the slider is really hard to press down to get a good cut.
I have a very expensive kutrimmer cutter that is fab and it weighs a ton and I don't let others use it. It makes exact cuts and i love it.
I also just got a dalhe at a yard sale $10 fro a $200 cutter and so far it works well.
thanks for sharing

Another one that doesn't work is Martha Stewart's little cutter. I bought it thinking, because it's Martha, it would work, and it's just crap. It has the little blade you slide (not the wheel kind) and it tends to pop off in the middle of cutting a piece of paper.

I'm heading back to Costco when I get paid next Friday for that nifty cutter!

I've only had one trimmer in 15 years and just recently replaced it.
I craft every day and even cut thin chip board with it.
I'm amazed how many have not held up to the task.

Great deal! At scrapbook.com this trimmer is $60 and at amazon.com it's almost $40! I can't find this trimmer online but I think I'll wait a little while to hear if you really like it or not. I'm running out of room for another paper trimmer!

omg - I could have done this episode, except I haven't found THE ONE yet. Have looked at a different Purple Cow at Costco, but no one could tell me if they had/liked it, so hadn't done so. I'm definitely going to check again and see if they have this one. I've got a friend who swears by guillotine cutters, so have been looking, but also need to rotary for cutting within a card not all the way through. I've got ALL my cutters still (after 25 years) and the one I use most is the FIRST Fiskars which is about 11 x 4 (the original, I think). It is best for quick jobs and does cutting and perferating. I have one that I really like - Fiskars too, but it's a major challenge to raise the guide (to the point where it strains my wrists and I can only use it once or twice in a session, and that just doesn't work when you're making multiple cards. I even have 2 of the same one (the first still unopened, because I forgot I'd bought it - remembered I'd looked at it lots...I do like the ones that have multiple paperguides on all sides so you can cut various card sizes. Thanks Christie! Costco was a possible on my list today, and I think you've convinced me.

I am definately going to look for paper cow at my Costco here in Canada. In Myrtle Beach last year they stopped selling scrapbooking items and I was so disappointed but I really want this paper cow and the price is so good, love your site, lots of great ideas...Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I will head for Costco today. I had a Purple Cow dual trimmer that I bought from HSC years ago and hated it. My daughter sold it on craigslist.com. I too have had trimmer issues. CM, mulitipul Fiskars, cricut, MM and the list goes on. Even went through the ruler and craft knife faze of life. I am on the verge on spending the big bucks but I will give the Purple Cow another try. Thanks. Diane

I had to laugh as I watched because this sounds just like me. When I was cutting just last night with my latest trimmer the thought "is there no paper trimmer that can cut straight lines" cropped up once again. Great video - I'll check out the Purple Cow to add to my collection.

I LOVE your new trimmer, but unfortunately dont have a costco here. I looked on Ebay and there was one for buy iy now for $59.99 !!!!!

Maisy September 9, 2010 at 10:19 AM

I got that trimmer at Costco several months ago for $29, which is still a good deal. I love it more than my MM trimmer (same one you have in beginning of video) plus that one doesn't work quite as it should, but even if it did, Purple Cow dual trimmer is my new love this year.

I have the PC Laminator too, though I haven't used it yet. It's a great price at Costco too. (I love Costco!)

Hello
I love the idea of the dual trimmer- even went to costco and bought one ( $29 here in Calif)
but I too would like to hear from you and others if it indeed works well and holds up.
And I do not see replacement blades in my local craft store (Michaels) and my online search has replacement blades for $5.99! Seems pretty pricey for 1 blade. Any ideas of chesper source?
Thanks
