Addie & Jack, Adopted with Love

I wanted to introduce you to our two newest family members, Addie and Jack.  After losing our 2 cats of 14 years so suddenly I thought I could never get another cat.  But how wrong I was.  After letting my heart heal for a month I found I missed the antics and snuggles that kitties bring into our lives.  My husband and I cancelled a few of our trips that we had planned for this summer and on Memorial day weekend adopted lil' Jack and his sister Addie.  At 7 1/2 weeks old they were full of energy and into everything.  We had forgotten how much energy and entertainment little kittens are.  They are never going to replace Maui & Indy in our hearts, my heart is big enough for them all.

Jack and Addie are the most lovable brother and sister ever.  Addie is way more outgoing and has been much easier to socialize than Jack.  Even though neither of the kitties could stand to be held when we first got them, after a lot of work, Addie now loves to be held and cuddled.  When we get home she is the first to run down and greet us.  Jack is more of a princess (even though he is the boy) LOL.  He cries after the vet visits, if he can't find his sister he freaks out, he's timid and can't stand being held.  He is the sweetest, most loveable kitty with us and and shows how affectionate he is by constantly taking care of his sister Addie.  When they are napping he always has a arm wrapped around her and loves to groom her.  It is just too sweet.  They both just adores my Grandson Kyler. They play with each others toys, too cute.  Addie has already decided to be my new assistant as you can see in my Create your Perfect Palette Video.

Sweet Lil' Addie!  What a cutie!

Jack knows how to keep me from getting my work done.  LOL
Just drape himself across the computer. Can't see the screen & can't type, MUST rub!

If anyone has tips on photographing a black cat
I am open to any and all tips!!!

  1. We recently discovered our cat had an over-active thyroid, she had been losing weight and we were afraid we'd lose her. It was a really scary moment. We get so attached, don't we? Your kittens are beautiful and a rescue is the best feeling in the world.

  4. Some how I knew you would end-up with at least one new fur baby, they always find fur parents that need them! As for photographing black cats try for lots of light and backgrounds that are lighter than the cat. My Lily is a black cat, tuxedo colored so she as a little white shirt front and white spats. I try not to take pictures of her when she’s surrounded by dark colors. Same happens when I take pictures of my mom’s grey cat, he just disappears (he’s named wrong, should have been Spook or Shadow instead of Pussy Willow but he was lighter as a kitten). Good luck with the pictures and they really are too cute!

  5. Iamso happy for you that you decided to adopt this pair of fur babies! Of course they will never replace Maui and Indy, they aren't meant to, they are meant to be their own little selves who you love also! Isn't the kitten stage fun? They are so stinking cute! I love the picture with Jack draped across your computer. . . Lol! Enjoy them and please keep us posted.

I have had numerous. Lack cats through the years (all males) and I wish I had some good photo tips for you. It is harder to photograph them.

  7. Awww.....so sweet! We are a one-cat family, but can't imagine life without our little Abby. We adopted her from the Humane Society about 7 years ago after losing our beloved Buffy. On days when everything seems to be going badly, Abby always brings a smile to our faces. Your two are adorable!

  8. Such sweet cuties you have adopted. I bet you'll be surprised at the lovin' when Jack imprints and comes out of his shell. I'm glad you got two, especially siblings. Try for colorful backgrounds when taking pics of Jack.

  9. Your new little furbabies are just the sweetest! We went through something similar a while back. Our cat Nikita became ill and died suddenly. My DH thought we could never get another cat or it would take a long time. A few months later I went into a pet store for fish supplies and could not find my DH. He had seen Elly and it was love at first sight. Soon after we adopted both Abby and Elly from a litter that was was rescued by a local shelter.

They just seem to wrap their little paws around your heart and bring such happiness into our lives. Congrats again on your new little additions! ;)

  10. Love the new fur babies. After trying for years to capture (pose) our black cat for photos, I found a few helpful hints. Black kitties look best of the light is from the side or behind the photographer. Bright jewel tones behind them really make them stand out. I was never able to get a good head on shot of my black kitty. They all just seemed to look like a blob. I found angled shots were the best.
Keep snapping and just love them both.

  11. Congrats on finding these precious two. I am partial to them now (because I have an Addie and a Jack (kid and dog) in my life to and their personalities match your Addie and Jack's. How awesome and lucky are we?

  13. Congratulations on your new babies! When our cat Izzy of 21 years passed away, we adopted a sibling pair. They sleep the same way your Addie and Jack do. They even cry if they can't find each other, that is the only time they meow.

Cricket is black and white and easy to photograph but Shadow is all black. I understand your frustration. First, avoid flash if you can. Use natural lighting. Get used to the gamma adjustments on your photo software, it will help. I try to have something right next to him so that I can "focus" on it since the camera has a tough time with him. If I focus on his eye it works. For head shots, get close enough that you can focus on the nose. I use a lot of natural lighting and he does photograph best with blues and reds in the background. Hope that helps! Enjoy your new fur babies!

Sorry about your other two babies we are owned by three of our own and can't imagine, but I am so happy you have been adopted by two new fur babies (yes I worded that correctly - lol)
