Better Than Pop Dots!!! Create Color Co-ordinated Custom Dimensional Embellishments

I found a way to Create Color Co-ordinated Custom Dimensional Embellishments!
You're Gonna LOVE this one!!! I had a major brain storm this time!!! While working on my son's house and our room remodel I have been forced to not craft as much and I guess my brain went into crafty overload and came up with a doozy!!! And you are going to love it! What a time saver!!! And money saver!!! And all of your layouts and card are going to look TONS better. Are you ready?...... Watch the video and see all the possibilities of this new technique. I'm sure I will come up with a thousand more ideas for it but I wanted to get the video and idea out there for all of you. ENJOY!!! This will create all that dimension that we all love without having to use those pesky pop dots that I despise using. They are time consuming to use, they always end up showing and I HATE pulling off all those little pieces of paper and then having to clean them all up. NO MORE POP DOTS FOR ME :)
-
And because I'm sooo excited to have created this I am going to send 3 lucky followers a bunch of Fun Foam and patterned paper so they can create their own 3-D embellishments. Just leave your e-mail or a way to get in touch with you in the comment section of this post (the comment button is at the TOP of the post) and I will pick 3 followers in about a week. Good luck and ENJOY!

Here are the simple instructions...
1. Adhere patterened paper to foam with Xyron Sticker maker or matte medium
2. Adhere adhesive to back of foam if you wish before cutting out of Sizzix die by running it through your Xyron sticker maker again foam side down.
3. Place foam with cardstock attached on Sizzix die and run through die cutter.
4. Attach to project...
Fast and easy!If you are using white core cardstock, you may notice a white edge along the paper. You can easily camoflage that by running a matching marker along the edge to color it the same color as your foam and cardstock. You can tell the differance in the two pictures of the heart below.
Before edges are colored. AFTER edges are colored

  3. Great idea Christie! I had a thought - If you run the foam/cardstock piece trough the Xyron before you cut with the die, all the little pieces could be saved as coloured "pop-dots" for use on other things.

  5. Christie -

I just finished watching your videos. GENIUS! How clever! I love this idea! And you are right, pop dots are a pain in the neck. Half the time, the paper comes off before I get to use it. I thinking this is a super idea, thanks for sharing. Smart girl.

  41. Great idea! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! It is hard finding the foam pop dots most of the time and if I do find them, most of the time, not the size I need.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Now that is something that will make my projects look so much nicer never mind the time and money savings from not using pop dots. I always hated that you could see the dots under my popped element because I couldn't trim it or if you hold or look at it at an angle (especially cards) you can see the dot. Problem solved!!!

  144. Christie, you definitely have a VERY bright creative lightbulb ... what a fantastic use of foam. I'd love to win your sample pack to give it a whirl, though I think impatience will set in and I'll find myself at Michael's as soon as the snow/ice here clears. I was curious about your Xyron -- mine doesn't have that top layer of "stickiness" (the clear plastic) on it. I wonder why? OMG, I am so anxious to try this. THANK YOU for sharing this idea.

  164. Great idea, Christie! I have two 6"x9" stacks of multi-colored fun foam that already has adhesive on one side. I'm off to give them a try. I'll only have to use the Xyron on one side and be able to attach the paper to the foam AND attach the finished cut to the project! I had bought the adhesive-backed fun foam to use as a cushion on unmounted rubber stamps but realized that I didn't really need the cushion for most stamps so had lots of fun foam left. Now I have a use for it. Thanks!!! Linda D (bravesfan91149@hotmail.com)

  186. Really clever idea. The one caveat I think you should let your followers know is that foam (any foam) WILL disintegrate over time and I'm not sure that it is acid/lignin free. So if you use this technique, don't do it over photos or "above" them where the stuff will end up "dusting" the photos.

  187. Christy,

Girl! This is just an awesome idea. I love dimension but hate those pop dots. I find I use a maker to color the white edges so I dont see them. This looks like a much faster idea.

Tip on the zyron glue on the edges. Use a small tip stylus and just run it round the edges. That will remove the glue on the edge. I do this for small detailed things and insides of letters. Works great.

  189. Christie, great idea!! I think my dollarstore even has sticky back foam in smaller sheets (not sure what kind of colours they have and I think they might be a bit thinner than most regular fun foam) I'm going to have to check it out since that would meN just sticking the paper to the non sticky side cutting and sticking since the backside is already sticky!! Yay! Thanks for the idea!!

  191. Great idea and thanks for sharing. My concern is the foam is not acid free. I wonder if you can spray it with the spray that they sell in Michaels art department or most art stores? Wouldn't be a issue unless you were using it on a photo. I pot dots are a pain.
